SUN LIFE
When the sun deep-warms the ground,
Light-loving creatures come from all around
To bask in its creative rays.
Deeply-breathing, a cat's sleep,
Curled within the harbouring heat
Of the shimmering day.
Hundreds of cicadas drum,
And all around the resounding hum
Vibrates the drowsy air.
A sun-absorbing lizard lies,
With the blackness of its eyes
Intensified within the stillness of its stare.
While a far bird glides, out-thinned
Against an updraught of warm wind,
In rising, far-searching flight;
A free-flitting butterfly
Is lured by
The longing of the blossom for the light.
Streaming over bare earth below,
Antennae meeting on their living flow
Busily-scurrying, black ants run.
And all that's surrounding,
Joys in the abounding
Light of the life-giving sun.
